Food & Mood: How What You Eat Affects How You Feel

If I drink too much tea or coffee I find that I begin to crave more and more and get headaches if I don't satisfy the craving

i guess i'm blessed with an iron clad stomach. nothing much bothers me either mood-wise or digestively speaking.  i have, however, seen a difference in the behavior of my kids after they've had those powdered drink mixes.  whether it's the dye or the white sugar, i don't know, but it was an eye opener, for sure!

I have noticed lately that I get kind of snappy a few hours after having my daily smoothie. I wonder if it's the natural sugars Im crashing from? I do get moody after the caffeine from coffee to tea wears off.

I can't eat sweet stuff in the morning because it gives me a headache.

I long ago realized I had a problem with caffeine in coffee--it gave me heart palpitations. But I am OK with decaf, and caffeine in other things doesn't seem to bother me--although I do try to avoid it whenever I can.

I've been avoiding gluten for over a year now, after I realized eating wheat-based items didn't make me feel well. Looking back, I've been experiencing symptoms for years, they were just more sporadic.

Wheat and sugar hurts my stomach-- and yet, they're the hardest two things to stop eating because I crave them.  What's great is that there are wheat-free alternatives that really help satisfy cravings and of course fruit and nature based sweetners satisfy my sweet tooth easily-- it's just, getting your hands on these good things when you need them that can be challenging.

For some reason espresso makes me jittery and irritable--what a downer b/c I love a good latte!  Now I just go decaf!  And I was glad you wrote this article b/c I just gave up artificial sweeteners for lent!  And I DO already have a problem with depression so maybe it will help with my mood.  I've also been told that aspartame, especially, can cause headaches.  Hoping that giving it up will get me feeling better by the time lent is over!!!  That way I can give it up for good!

When I first went vegan, I ate a TON of fruits all the time, but I always felt pretty low. Probably because of an overdependence on natural sugars. I'm trying to incorporate a variety of foods now, though and it's definitely better!

I wish more people were aware of the impact between food and mental, not just physical, health!

Mine would be chocolate.  Not enough I'm crabby, too much and I crash, just right and I'm all smiles!smiley-smile.gif

I'm vegan, but before I went vegan milk really messed me up.  It made me sick and feel terrible, which definitely made me crabby.

I  cannot have dairy. It plays havoc on my digestive system and makes me feel bogged down

I try and stay away from excess augar, it always gives me headaches and makes me grumpy.

Sometimes dairy doesn't go well with my stomach!!!!

Thanks for posting such an informative article. I know caffine is not great to our bodies, but I didn't realize all of the things listed here were linked to it. I gave up lattes with milk when I went vegan, but sometimes go to soy lattes. I think I'll wean myself off that habit and drink a green smoothie or green tea instead.

Eatting nuts & dried fruit always puts me in a good mood. =)
